MedCLIVAR Young Scientist Awards
The MedCLIVAR community proudly continues its tradition of celebrating excellence among early-career researchers with the MedCLIVAR Young Scientist Awards. These prestigious awards recognize exceptional young scientists whose work is advancing our understanding of the Mediterranean climate and strengthening the MedCLIVAR network.
Award recipients will be honored during the MedCLIVAR 2026 Conference, in Limassol, gaining visibility within the international Mediterranean climate research community.
How to Nominate
We warmly invite nominations for outstanding young scientists who have demonstrated excellence in research and active engagement with MedCLIVAR.
To submit a nomination, please send an email with the subject line “MedCLIVAR 2026 YS Awards” to g.zittis@cyi.ac.cy
Your email should include the following:

- A nomination letter highlighting the candidate’s achievements, the motivation for the award and the candidate’s main contributions to MedCLIVAR research scope and activities
- A list of publications
- A short CV (max. 4 pages)
- Self-nominations are not accepted.

Eligibility
Candidates must:

- Attend the MedCLIVAR 2026 Conference in person
- Be under 40 years old at the call deadline
- Have completed their PhD within the last 8 years (at the call deadline)
- Extensions may be granted for documented parental leave, clearly specified and supported in the nomination letter.

Selection and Recognition
The MedCLIVAR Steering Group will carefully review all nominations and select the awardees who will be announced at the MedCLIVAR2026 conference.

MedCLIVAR Best Poster Awards
Medrevious awardees
The MedCLIVAR 2026Conference will award the best posters presented by early-career scientists. Eligible candidates are YS (Young Scientists), meaning MSc and PhD students, and young postdocs (not more than 4 years after completion of their PhD). The YS should be the first author and attend the conference. Applicants should explicitly apply for the award within two weeks after having received the notification of acceptance of her/his abstract as a poster. Applications should be sent to g.zittis@cyi.ac.cy, with the subject “MedCLIVAR 2026 Best poster awards”. In the email, applicants should also state their highest degree completion date, the session where their poster is presented and the title of the poster. Awards will be assigned based on three criteria:

- Capability of the presenter to answer questions from viewers during the conference
- Clarity of delivered information and aesthetically appealing
